Standard Programme

Our standard programme is the entrance point for most dogs into the Dog Spa. During this programme we introduce the dogs to swimming and the Manon - on our standard programmeuse of the pool and begin to help them to use their muscles and mobilise joints etc. This programme provides us with some clear data about your dog and how he will respond to treatment within the Spa.

The picture here is of Manon a hard working Bull Terrier endeavouring to achieve full fitness - she started with us on the standard programme and is doing really well.

Standard Programme Plus

This progression from the standard programme sees us introduce the relaxing in the Spa Bathbenefits of the Spa Bath Jacuzzi system to further stimulate your dog's responses to treatment and for a luxurious relaxing phase between treatments.

The Jacuzzi can be used for pain relief - pain relief that can result in reduction of medication. Pain relief often alters the characteristic of a dog from short tempered and unhappy to relaxed with increased ability to be active and happy.

The Jacuzzi also provides total massage. It is especially effective for injured and particularly arthritic dogs. We keep the temperature at 38 degrees. The unit's adjustable floor accommodates all breeds.

Special Needs

Whisper - a regular on our Special Needs ProgrammeWhisper - enjoying a gently supported swimOur Special Needs programmes are individually tailored to meet the needs of dogs who have been referred to us by veterinary specialists.

We currently run programmes for dogs with paraplegia and tetraplegia and have witnessed some amazing results from Phillip - is unable to move his front legs but in the water he is able to move his hind legs and move around the poolour clients.Phillip can clamber up the ramp in the pool to see his mum

Dogs on our special needs programmes don't just physically improve their whole well being improves and it has been very special for us to see the improvement in quality of life for some of the dogs we work with on a regular basis.

Another regular on our special needs programme is Dino - a Doberman Pinscher. Dino suffered a cranial cruciate injury. After initial surgery he wasDino - swimming with close support put on a very conservative exercise regime with only two 10 minute sessions daily. As a result, Dino became a very frustrated and anxious dog. To make matters worse he ruptured the repair of the first surgery and had to have surgery repeated.

After the second surgery, his muscle diminished, tone became flaccid and his behaviour became difficult to manage. Eventually he was referred to the Dog Spa and we created a Special Needs programme for him.

He has been swimming at the Dog Spa since August 25th. His swims all take place with close support i.e. one of our team gets into the water with him to help him build confidence and make him feel at ease. In the pool Dino Working with us at the Dog Spa has helped make Dino a happier fitter dogsuffers from poor buoyancy and so needs 2 floats to support him.

The structure of Dino's programme was devised by the vets at Langford Veterinary College as part of their research and is proving to be highly successful.

Dino's muscle has developed and both first and 2nd thigh muscles are now well defined.

With some advice from a canine behaviourist and the exercise at the Dog Spa - Dino is much happier and enjoys life both at home and during his visits with us.
